The jewelry I love to wear is always rather simple… made to show off a fantastic bead…or three! The focal bead is made by ceramic artist Tari Sasser. When I started making the Rio Party beads, I finally knew what I was going to do with Tari’s fantastic bead! As luck would have it, my friend Heidi Bond – makes gorgeous hand dyed ribbons – had the perfect ribbon to string it and 2 Rio donut glass beads on. Simple and WOW all in one! $42.00
The ribbon is about 25″ and the focal is 2.5″ long.
That rat is at it again! I made a number of these to take to a fundraiser for kids and only came home with two! Mouse ears wrapped with anodized black steel wire and Jet AB Swarovski crystal all hanging on a black silicone necklace. A close up of just the bead is below.
One is slightly bigger than the other: 21mm (including wire bail & crystal dangle) vs. 23 mm. Rubber necklace is 18″ long. $13 each or take both for $21.00
This is a really stunning, eye-catching necklace! It was one of my Art Bead Scene entries last year and you can read about it here. I often keep things that took me considerable time and effort just to admire them. I often don’t feel I’m “ready” to part with them but… a girl has to make a living.
In addition to the water lily focal and lily pads – made by me, this necklace features a variety of green, pink, purple and blue handmade lampwork beads by a number of other artists. There are almost 100 genuine Swarovski crystals and a smattering of Bali silver and E beads. This piece was inspired by the painting Water Lilies by Monet. The perfect gift for a woman who loves fun, unique jewelry and art! $165.00
This pendant is my entry into the March Art Bead Scene contest, inspired by the Van Gogh painting of the same name.
ABOUT THE BEADS: The art glass beads were handmade by me, Holly Dare of Holly’s Folly ~ Glass. The focal is made of layers of opaque and transparent teal glass for depth. The flowers are white with a bit of pink. I didn’t want the pink to overpower the piece.
The Bellflower dangle is an opaque pink on stainless steel wire.
ABOUT THE PENDANT: The upper part is a wired wonder! The flower petal shaped bail, the roller coaster swirl and the large hammered flower are all ONE piece of sterling wire! I carried out the flower motif with a smaller hammer wire flower dangling from the large one. The bellflower dangle completes the piece. $49.00
January’s inspiration painting for the Art Bead Scene Contest was cold, wintry scene called The Magpie by Claude Monet. I knew right away I would attempt one of those fantastic tree beads… but I wanted a cold, translucent feeling.
I made the glass bead and etched it. I found some of the new colored beading wires in shades of blue and some delicate blue opals. I had always wanted to try a design that allowed some of the beads to float and move around on the beading wire. I used crimps and crimp covers to act as “stops” for the opals. A Bali silver clasp and 10mm sterling balls balance out the design.
I wire wrapped the focal art bead in 18 gauge sterling with a rosette bottom. $95.00
My last minute entry into April’s Art Bead Scene contest.
On to the beads! Or the painting… I must admit, I HATED the inspiration painting and didn’t get the beads made as early as I would have liked…. It’s really hard when you are not inspired and, honestly, I really dislike abstract art. And this painting was so abstract.
But in the end, it was the colors that spoke to me. I used Alabastro glasses in beige and green and for the first time EVER, successfully worked copper into a bead! The center of the focal is oxidized copper.
About the Pendant: The black lines in the piece really spoke to me and so, instead of resorting to my usual sterling, I made the pendant with anodized steel.
The focal and two spacers were wire wrapped with generous loops to be able to slide onto any chain. The lines and squiggles at the bottom resemble the onesin the painting with the ends tucked to prevent them from poking into clothing or skin.
More spacers were added to the center wire for another pop of color.
Focal size: .7″ long x .8 inches wide. Total pendant length: 3.6″ long $19.99
